Festival Parade Rules and Entry Application

How to Enter

  1. Fill out the entry form at the bottom of this page. Be sure to provide the descriptive information for use by the announcer at the reviewing stand. Please DO NOT ask questions in this area, as they will not be answered. If you have any questions please email parade coordinators at noffparade@gmail.com.
  2. Deadline for entries is Friday, July 7, 2017
  3. MAXIMUM NUMBER OF ENTRIES IS LIMITED TO THE FIRST 120 RECEIVED
  4. Complete information about staging, judging, placement, parade route, number assignment, etc. will be emailed to you no later than Friday, July 21, 2017

Judging

Judging of all parade entries will be by a panel of judges appointed by the Newberg Old Fashioned Festival Committee. All entries will be judged within the staging area. They will judge according to established criteria for each category. The decision of the judges is final. Judging will be done at 8:00am


Rules & Regulations For All Entries

  1. Entries must observe all applicable rules and regulations and follow all instructions from police and parade officials. The NOFF and the Parade Committee reserve the right to remove any entrant from the parade, either prior to assembly, at assembly, or any time during the parade.
  2. Unless otherwise approved by the Parade Committee, ALL PARADE PARTICIPANTS MUST BE 14 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER, or be on floats, vehicles, or equestrian units with adult supervision
  3. No material may be handed out or thrown along the line of the march. Distribution of gifts, merchandise,literature or other materials (including candy) along the line of march is prohibited, unless approved by the parade committee prior to the parade.
  4. Forward movement maneuvers ONLY by marching units are permitted. A spacing of 50 feet between each unit will be enforced. All units are required to close the gap between units when ordered by the parade officials
  5. Use of firearms or other noise-making devices is prohibited.
  6. The gates will close at 9 am. Please make sure your entry is in the staging area by this time.


Floats

  1. All advertising on entries must be subordinate to the overall design of the entry
  2. All motorized vehicles in the parade must be driven by licensed operators and have liability insurance.
  3. **New this year – Family Float for those families that would like to enter a float.
  4. Floats may be required to pass a safety and maneuverability inspection and meet all required safety regulations. This includes being able to enter and exit the gated staging area. All floats must carry a fire extinguisher visible to parade spectators. Self-propelled floats must provide driver visibility of at least 180 degrees forward and drivers must be able to escape quickly from the driver's compartment.
  5. To be judged, floats must be decorated to the theme

Equestrian

  1. Riders must be at least 14 years of age or have ADULT supervision at all times. All riders under the age of 18 must wear a riding helmet.
  2. NO STALLIONS
  3. Any rider showing inability to control his/her animal will be deemed unsafe at the Parade Committee's discretion and will be removed from the parade
  4. All equestrian entries must load and unload in their staging area

 

Motor and Business Vehicles

  1. Must be in good operating order
  2. Must have liability insurance and be driven by a licensed driver.
  3. If you are entering more than one vehicle, please enter them separately.
  4. If you are entering a business vehicle without a float, please enter it as a business vehicle, no matter what era it is from.
  5. No material may be handed out or thrown along the line of the march. Distribution of gifts, merchandise,literature or other materials (including candy) along the line of march is prohibited, unless approved by the parade committee prior to the parade.

 

Motorcycles/Four Wheelers

  1. Forward motion only.
  2. All tires must remain on the road at all times.
  3. No racing or otherwise fast movements forward.
  4. No material may be handed out or thrown along the line of the march. Distribution of gifts, merchandise,literature or other materials (including candy) along the line of march is prohibited, unless approved by the parade committee prior to the parade.


Marching Groups & Bands

  1. All marching units will be in full uniform
  2. No participants under the age of 14 will be allowed to march in the parade, unless approved by the Parade Committee PRIOR to the parade
  3. There will be a pre-parade inspection of all units as part of the judging procedure
  4. To be judged, all members must be present. Judges may ask you to perform.
  5. No material may be handed out or thrown along the line of the march. Distribution of gifts, merchandise,literature or other materials (including candy) along the line of march is prohibited, unless approved by the parade committee prior to the parade.
